The early years are the most significant for human growth, development and learning. Facilitating the right stimulation at the right time is the key to the networking of brain cells, which shapes the way individuals behave, think and learn for the rest of their lives.

 

The preschool curriculum aims an enriching environment for children to enquire, explore and discover a great deal about themselves and their surroundings through various experiential activities.

The Primary Curriculum is designed to address the following-

 

Physical Well-being and Motor Development

 

The two major goals of physical and motor development are achieving gross and fine motor control.

Gross motor control includes body balance, coordination, movement and skills such as running, jumping, hopping, skipping and catching a ball.

Fine motor skills involve using and coordinating the small muscles with dexterity. Eye-hand coordination helps in activities involving manipulation of small material and writing tools such as holding crayons, paint brushes.

Music and Movement activities help in developing spatial sense.




Language Development:

 

Language development is crucial at the preschool stage since it provides the foundation for later learning. It includes listening and comprehension, oral skills, vocabulary development, pre-literacy skills such as phonological awareness, print awareness, letter-sound correspondence, building words and sentences.

 

Cognitive Development:

 

Cognition refers to the processes of knowing and understanding the environment around us. Cognitive Development includes pre-number and number concepts as well as knowledge and skills related to comparison, classification, seriation, critical thinking, observing and problem solving.



Development of Creative and Aesthetic Appreciation:

 

Exploring different art forms and developing dispositions, expression and appreciation for artistic, dance / drama and musical activities.

 

Personal, Social and Emotional Development:

 

Development of life and self-help skills, habit formation, cooperation, social relationships, group interaction, pro-social behaviour, expression of feelings and acceptance of others’ feelings are some of the skills and values that are addressed in the early years are the most significant for human growth, development and learning. Facilitating the right stimulation at the right time is the key to the networking of brain cells, which shapes the way individuals behave, think and learn for the rest of their lives. Hence, providing adequate opportunities for stimulating experiences favorably affects various learning abilities.



Montessori Lab

 

“The child has a mind able to absorb knowledge. He has the power to teach himself.” (The Absorbent Mind by Maria Montessori) Based on the philosophy of Maria Montessori, this programme is designed to enhance the various skills of the children- fine motor, social, language, sensory and number concepts. The Montessori practical life material allows children to take part in activities of daily adult life by providing links between home and school.
All the activities are meaningful, creative, filled with intricate movements and achievements which hold the child’s attention. They are easily understood from start to finish; they appeal to the child’s will and they lead to greater physical skill, perfection of movement and concentration. The skills and concepts that these children master while working with this material helps them to become more independent and confident at a very young age.

‘Play’ opens the windows of learning as the children test their developing ideas with objects, people, and situations. All it takes is a bit of planning, a lot of letting go, and some gentle guiding and teaching to help our children reap the full benefits as they grow toward their full potential.
Keeping this in mind, many activities in the playroom are planned which offer our children an opportunity to discover, wonder, experience and create their own understanding of their environment. This helps in enhancing their self-esteem, pride, and fosters curiosity and imagination.
