The Theory of Knowledge (TOK) essay is a core requirement of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), with students selecting one of six prescribed titles towards their May examination session. As students entered the phase of developing their personal essays, the TOK Mela was organised to provide structured time for critical reflection and academic consultation. The platform enabled students to analyse and refine real-life examples from their chosen Areas of Knowledge through focused guidance from subject specialists.
Designed to promote learner agency, the Mela facilitated individual, dialogic interactions that deepened students’ understanding and sharpened their arguments. Over three lessons, students engaged with teachers based on mutual availability, resulting in more coherent, well-reasoned essay perspectives by the end of the session.
